Methamphetamine Bust In Central Huron – Names Released

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – An early morning traffic stop on January 15, 2017 has resulted in a number of charges being laid against a driver and passenger from Central Huron. Just after 4:30 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Ford Focus travelling eastbound on Huron Road near Orchard Line. The investigating officer noted the driver was having difficulty maintaining a consistent speed and keeping his vehicle within the marked lane of traffic. As a result a traffic stop was initiated to check on the sobriety of the driver.

While speaking with the driver officers observed a quantity of suspected methamphetamine lying on the backseat. Both the driver and the passenger were immediately placed under arrest and taken into custody. Additionally, while speaking with the driver the investigating officer observed several signs that the driver was under the influence of a drug. As a result the driver was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) evaluated the driver and formed the opinion the driver was impaired by a drug.

Further investigation revealed the driver was failing to abide by conditions of a court release and a probation order. As a result, the driver, Steven SLOTEGRAAF 40 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Methamphetamine), Impaired Driving by Drug, Fail to Comply with Recognizance (2) counts and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He remains in custody with a court date scheduled for January 25, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Shawn SLOTEGRAAF 36 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Methamphetamine). He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for February 27, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
