The media coverage on a search warrant conducted by the Hanover Police Service on November 10th 2014 is being credited for the recovery of a stolen firearm that was turned into the Hanover police.
On November 16th 2014 the Hanover Police Service received a firearm from a member of the public who had heard media reports and realized they were in possession of a firearm that they believed was linked to the weapons and drug investigation from November 10th in Hanover.
Members of the Hanover Police Service determined the firearm was stolen from a residential break and enter in the City of Belleville in 2013. The Hanover Police Service has been in contact with the Belleville Police Service and continues to work on this investigation.
The suspect, Crystal O’Brien, age 23 of Hanover was arrested on November 22nd and charged with the
following offences:
1. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
2. Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
3. Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000
O’Brien was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Walkerton court for a bail hearing on November 24th 2O14.
This investigation is an excellent example of the Media, the Public and the Police working together to ensure our local communities remain safe, resulting in a stolen firearm being removed from our streets and criminal charges against a suspect.
