MCGRATH – Impaired Driving, Drive While Disqualified, Drugs, Run Stop Sign, Etc.

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A 41-year-old from East Zorra-Tavistock Township is facing a number of charges following a traffic stop that took place on March 12, 2016. At approximately 5:30 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed the driver of a Dodge Neon fail to stop at the intersection of MacDonald Road and Airport Line.

The officer turned around and began to follow the Dodge Neon that was now travelling southbound on Airport Line. The officer followed the vehicle a short distance and while doing so he observed the Neon touch the center line several times. The vehicle was ultimately stopped at the intersection of Airport Line and Dashwood Road. Upon speaking with the male driver the officer detected alcohol on the driver’s breath and an open can of beer was also observed inside the vehicle.

Upon further investigation the officer observed the driver to be displaying signs that his ability to drive a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. As a result, the driver was placed under arrest for impaired driving. He was then transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both samples registered over the legal limit.

Upon searching the vehicle police located and seized a quantity of marihuana. In addition, police also determined the driver was driving with a suspended driver’s licence.

As a result, 41-year-old Craig MCGRATH from East Zorra-Tavistock Township has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Driving While Disqualified, Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana) – Over 30 Grams, Driving While Under Suspension and Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on April 18, 2016. He was served with a 90 day automatic driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
