May 24 River Run

Each year many people like to participate in the traditional Saugeen River Run on the Sunday of this coming holiday weekend. Each year the Saugeen Shores Police have set up additional RIDE programs and had assistance from the MNR, the three area Ontario Provincial Police detachments and the three area municipal police services, Owen Sound, West Grey and Hanover.

This year will be no different. Police will be checking for drinking drivers, boaters and rafters to ensure compliance with the law and to ensure people have proper safety equipment.

This season the water is very high and very cold. Last Sunday the water temperature on Lake Huron was 7 degrees. The swift current and frigid temperatures of the air and the water will present a hazard for those participating this year.

Please be careful, be warm and be responsible. We don’t want a tragedy. You can make the proper decisions to prevent a tragedy from occurring.
