(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have arrested a male and female on driving and drug possession charges following a short police chase that took place on April 23, 2013. Just before 9:00 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer observed a red Pontiac Grand Prix speeding northbound on Road 164 through the village of Kirkton. The patrol officer attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver failed to stop and continued northbound at a high rate of speed. A short distance later on Road 164 the driver attempted to pass a northbound transport truck. The driver of the Grand-Prix contacted the transport truck, whereupon the driver of the Grand-Prix lost control and the vehicle left the roadway, rolled onto the roof ultimately coming to rest near a creek in the east ditch.
The two occupants of the Grand-Prix exited the passenger side door as the officer approached the scene of the crash. The female passenger was arrested at the scene however the male driver fled the scene. A backpack containing illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia was located at the scene. A canine unit attended and a search for the male driver was initiated. The male managed to elude police until the next morning when he was observed in Kirkton by citizens. Officers arrested the male without incident just before 8:00 a.m.. Both occupants sustained minor injuries.

Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking – Methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Flight from Police contrary to section 249.1(1) Criminal Code
Dangerous Driving contrary to section 249(1)(a) Criminal Code
Fail to Comply with Condition of Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) Criminal Code
Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking contrary to section 145(5.1) Criminal Code
Drive Under Suspension contrary to section 53 of the Highway Traffic Act
Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
He remains in custody.
Also charged is 21 year old female Crystal O’BRIEN, from Hanover. She has been charged with:

Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking – Methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Public Mischief contrary to section 140 (1)(a) Criminal Code
She has been released from custody and has a scheduled court appearance on May 13, 2013 at the Ontario Court of Justice Goderich.
