The raiding of North Huron’s coffers by senior staff is nearly complete and council is now fully on board and wants massive raises too. To help make this happen Reeve neil vincent has ban Public and Press questions at budget meetings.
To fund massive raises for senior staff and council, everyone else in North Huron will suffer. We are pissing away $185,000/year in “Economic/Community Development” that has yielded negative results. Council has admitted that our extremely expensive ED department is virtually useless. Cutting this department completely would save $185,000/year avoiding most cuts suggested by senior staff, but I think we all know why that won’t happen.
So, what are we losing and at risk of losing due to council’s unwillingness to confront department heads that are destroying North Huron. Of course all these cuts could be avoided if council actually participated in the budget process and eliminated unnecessary spending and gross overspending on buddy deals and “consultant fees”.
Here are the changes senior staff recommended to fund their paychecks and bonuses.
Museum gone, Museum building likely to go, reduced hours at Town Hall for public access, closing the pool during the summer, reduced landfill hours, airport and trailer park at risk of being sold again, swimming lessons for 60 kids to go, concession booths gone, soccer field to go, ice surface hours reduced, free tree program to go, hanging flower baskets on Josephine St to go. Also we will be switching to bi-weekly recycling, have increased fees for day camps, increased fees for daycare, increased fees at the trailer park, less grass cutting, hiring less students and selling of more buildings.
Department heads only seem concerned about how to fund their paychecks and continue to suggest selling off as many NH assets as possible to fund their raises. Now they are cutting the hours of support staff and those that actually do the work in North Huron (Landfill workers, plow operators, pot hole fillers, property maintenance staff, summer students, etc, etc).
