Mark Berkin – Drunk Driving

(Huron East, ON) On May 23, 2010 at approximately 8:30 pm, Huron OPP officers were set up for a RIDE checkpoint on Blyth Road and Brussels Line in Huron East. A Jeep entered the checkpoint with two occupants, a male driver and a female passenger. Upon speaking to the occupants, the officer saw that the passenger was attempting to conceal a can. An odour of an alcoholic beverage could be detected from inside the vehicle. The can being concealed turned out to be a beer can. Further discussions led the officer to read a demand to the driver to provide a roadside sample of his breath. The driver complied and failed his test. He was arrested and taken to the Huron OPP Detachment where he met with a qualified Intoxilizer Technician to provide two more samples of his breath. The results of his tests confirmed that the driver had over two times above the legal limit of alcohol in his system at the time of driving.

As a result of the investigation, Mark BERKIN (43) of Waterloo has been charged with one count of Drive With Over 80 Milligrams of alcohol. He will be returning to the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on July 19th. LP10134222
