(LAKE HURON, ON) – The Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit was activated last week to help out a mariner that experienced transmission problems with his vessel. At approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 25, 2013 Huron OPP received a dispatch call regarding a 20 foot Larson Bowrider powercraft that was floating adrift with five occupants. The vessel had been adrift for approximately three hours before the distress call was made. Marine officers from the Huron OPP detachment launched their vessel from the Grand Bend Marina and were able to locate the vessel around 10:40 p.m.. The vessel was located a few kilometers south of Grand Bend and less than a kilometer from shore. The disabled vessel was safely towed back to the Grand Bend Marina. Huron OPP Marine officers noted the vessel was equipped with all of the required safety equipment; however the combination of falling temperatures and increased winds made conditions less than ideal for the passengers.
The 43 year old male vessel operator commented, They did a great job
