Marine Unit Rescues Kayakers On Lake Huron

(LAKE HURON, ON) – On July 18, 2015 at 6:50 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a distress call from 2 men that were operating kayaks on Lake Huron. Despite a heavy fog that was settling in, members of the South Bruce OPP marine unit conducted a search and located the men. Officers found that neither man was wearing a life jacket. They were taken back to the harbour and assessed by Bruce County Paramedics. Both kayakers were charged under the Canada Shipping Act for operating without a life jacket.

The South Bruce OPP Marine unit wants all vessel operators to carry the required safety equipment each time you leave the dock. When you need it is not the time to discover you don’t have it.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
