At approximately 1150 PM, 23 September, a Wingham police officer stopped a suspected impaired driver on Josephine St in Wingham. As the officer approached the motor vehicle, it fled Southbound on Josephine St. The driver attempted to negotiate a turn onto Amberley Road and he lost control, rolling the vehicle into the ditch on the South side of the road. The 41 year old man was pinned in the vehicle and North Huron Fire Department and the Huron County Ambulance attended to extricate him. He was transported to the Wingham Hospital and then transferred to London Health Sciences Centre with non life threatening injuries.
When there is an injury and police are involved, the Special Investigations Unit are contacted to investigate.
Amberley Road from Josephine Street to Helena Street is currently closed while the police and SIU conduct their investigation.
