(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Wednesday July 08, 2015, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the Goderich Exeter Railway Company line west of Shakespeare where a Via train had struck a person.
Investigation revealed that the Toronto bound (east bound) Via passenger train was approximately half a kilometer west of the Village of Shakespeare when the train struck a pedestrian on the tracks.
Emergency responders attended the scene and located a male’s body which was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male has been identified as Robert William MCARDLE (27) of Stratford.
Police have concluded their investigation. There is no foul play suspected and there is no risk to the public.
The two car Via passenger train with approximately 50 passengers on board continued on its way at 12:30 a.m.
