Man scams woman with “I locked my keys in the car” story

On Sunday October 23, 2016, just shortly after 8:00pm it was indicated that an unknown man approached a woman who was walking in the area of Paisley Avenue South between King Street West and Main Street West.

The man asked the woman for help saying he locked his keys in his car and needed cash to make his way home by cab to get his spare keys. The man appeared sincere and the woman provided the man with $50. Details were exchanged to make arrangements to be paid back however the woman later discovered that the information provided including a cell phone number was not valid.

The woman shared the story with a friend who indicated they had been approached with a similar story by what is believed to be the same man within the last week in the same area. Realizing her good nature was taken advantage of and the man scammed her she contacted police to report the matter.
