On October 3, 2016 a 19-year-old Camden Township man attended a local motel in Chatham as he had arranged a meeting via the Internet. Two men however rushed into the room with a baseball bat. They assaulted the victim and forced him to turn over his credit card with PIN number. One of the men left with the credit card while the other forced the victim to stay in the room. Approximately 30 minutes later, the man returned with the credit card and the victim was allowed to leave.
Through investigation, police learned that the credit card was used at an ATM and money was withdrawn from the victim’s bank account. The man also used the credit card to make a purchase at a local convenience store.
Yesterday afternoon, police located the men and they were charged with robbery, forcible confinement and uttering threats. Both the 28-year-old Chatham man and 26-year-old Chatham man have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
