Man in Custody After Police Chase

The Chatham-Kent Police Service have arrested and charged a Blenheim man with several offences, including Dangerous Driving, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Failing to Comply with an earlier release condition.

At about 1:45 pm, yesterday afternoon, Chatham-Kent Police officers observed a Blenheim man known to them walking towards a parked vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the week (2010 Ford Fusion – CK14036383). As the officers converged on the man, he entered the stolen vehicle and fled from Police, operating the vehicle in a dangerous manner. A pursuit was initiated and ended a short distance away, resulting with the accused’s arrest.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the accused was in possession of property that had been inside another motor vehicle that had been stolen late last week. The accused was found to be in possession of a syringe that contained a controlled substance. The accused was also bound by earlier release conditions which stated that he was not to operate a motor vehicle.

The accused was held in Police custody pending a bail hearing.
