Man Escapes Inferno

(South Huron,ON) On June 6, 2009 at approximately 11:30 am, police were called to assist the Dashwood Fire Department with a tractor fire in a field near Dashwood. A driver had been operating a sprayer in a field north of Dashwood Road when one of the automatic sensors faulted causing the right side of the sprayer unit to strike the hydro line which then came down onto the sprayer unit and grounded out. Both of the sprayer tires then caught on fire. The driver remained inside the cab of the tractor until the Fire Department and Hydro One arrived. As a result, he suffered no injuries. The result could have been drastically different if the driver had attempted to exit the tractor. Traffic was rerouted for a period of time as a precaution. LP09136887
