The Hamilton Police Service would like to let the community know that John Vermeire has now been sentenced in relation to criminal charges laid by the Child Abuse Unit stemming from a number of investigations that were brought before the courts in May 2015. On Thursday June 2, 2016, John Vermeire was sentenced to 5 years and 4 months in custody.
The Hamilton Police Service would like to thank the community and the media for their assistance during these investigations. The sharing of information and use of social media had a significant impact with these investigations.

On the morning of May 20th, 2015 Hamilton Police arrested a male for several sexual offences after a lengthy investigation. The accused lives in the Hamilton (Dundas) area and is a delivery driver for a local restaurant. Over an 18 month period the accused is alleged to have befriended two teenaged females and sexually assaulted them.
Arrested: John Vermeire (55 years) of Hamilton
Charges: Sexual Assault X9, Sexual Interference X9, Invitation to Sexual Touching

Hamilton Police Lay Additional Charges in Sexual Assault Case

Hamilton, ON
As a result of the media release communicated to the public on May 29, 2015, two additional victims have contacted the Hamilton Police Service. Both of these individuals have identified themselves as being child victims of sexual assault at the hands of John Vermeire. The reported offences are historical in nature.
The accused is identified as having worked at the formerly named Highland Secondary School in Dundas, now Dundas Valley High School since the early 1990’s. The accused held a position as a janitor at the school where his position put him in contact with children. He no longer works at the school, however has been a long time resident of the Dundas area.
Hamilton Police have investigated these new reported offences and on June 4, 2015, several more charges were laid against the accused who continues to remain in custody pending a bail hearing.

Hamilton Police Child Abuse Unit Detectives continue to investigate newly reported offences with respect to this individual.
On June 18, 2015, several more charges were laid against the accused who continues to remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
Eight (8) additional charges have since been laid against John Vermeire (55 years) of Hamilton.
