The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a shoplifting complaint in Chatham.
Yesterday morning, an employee at Walmart observed a man acting suspiciously in the electronics department. The man placed a flat screen television in his cart and paid for the item. Outside, the man gave the television to a friend and returned back into the store. The man returned to the electronics department and chose the same item. The man returned to the same cashier with his receipt in hand asking about a warranty. The man exited the store making no attempt to pay for the second television. The television was valued at $600.
Officers located the man outside and he was taken into custody. The 26-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was transported to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.
