Man Charged with Robbery

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a robbery early this morning in Chatham.

Around 12:45 a.m. the man entered a gas bar on Park Avenue and asked to exchange a quarter for two dimes and a nickel. The employee complied and the man left the store. Approximately 10 minutes later, the man returned and asked to use the phone. After trying to make a phone call, the man asked the employee for his quarter back in exchange for the two dimes and nickel. As the employee opened the cash register, the man reached over the counter and stole an undisclosed amount of money. The employee attempted to stop the man, however he was pushed away. The man fled the area on foot and police were called. The employee did not require medical attention.

Through investigation, officers identified the man and he was arrested around 1:45 a.m.

A 47-year-old Chatham man has been charged with robbery. He has been released with conditions pending a future court date.
