Man Charged with Obstruct Police

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a motor vehicle collision yesterday in Wallaceburg.

In January 2012, the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was not to purchase or consume alcohol.

Last night, around 6:00 p.m. police responded to a fail to remain motor vehicle collision in a parking lot on McNaughton Avenue. The suspect vehicle was located a short distance away from the scene of the collision. There were four people in the vehicle, all whom had been drinking. Through investigation, the man who was a passenger in the vehicle identified himself to police using a false name. The officer learned the man’s true identity and he was arrested for breaching his release conditions by being intoxicated.

The 18-year-old Walpole Island man has been charged with obstruct police and failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The 26-year-old woman driver was issued a 3-day license suspension. No one was injured as a result of the collision. Total damage was estimated at $200.
