Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a domestic disturbance in Chatham last night.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. the man attended his ex-wife’s residence and an argument began. The man heard a text message being received on the woman’s cell phone so he took the phone from her possession in an attempt to check the message. A physical struggle ensued as the woman attempted to retrieve her phone. The man pinned the woman on the floor and refused to return the phone.

As the man heard an occupant in the residence call 911 he let the woman go and unplugged the phone disconnecting the call to police. Officers arrived shortly thereafter and the man was arrested. The woman did not seek medical attention.

The 32-year-old Chatham man has been charged with theft under $5000, assault and forcible confinement. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
