The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following an incident in Ridgetown early this morning.
Shortly after 1:00 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a man walking east on Main Street. The man was holding an open beer in his hand and appeared to be intoxicated. The officer approached the man and seized the beer. When the officer asked the man for identification, he fled on foot. The officer caught up to the man on Harold Street. The man grabbed the officer’s vest in an attempt to throw him off balance and resist arrest. The officer was able to gain control of the man and he was taken into custody.
The 18-year-old Embro man has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
