Man Charged After Series Of Sexual Assaults On Busses – Photo Released

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section have charged a 62-year-old man following three sexual assaults that took place on transit busses in the City of Markham.

On Tuesday, November 1, 2016, a 21-year-old female victim attended #5 District Headquarters to report two sexual assaults that had occurred while she was riding on a transit bus in Markham. The victim advised that she had been riding a bus during the morning hours in the south-end of Markham and had fallen asleep. She awoke when a man touched her inappropriately. Days later, the same thing happened to her, but this time she came forward to police.

During the course of the investigation a second victim was identified and the circumstances surrounding her sexual assault were similar in nature.

On Thursday, November 3, 2016, the suspect was identified and placed under arrest without incident.

Investigators are releasing an image of the accused to ensure there are no further victims that may not have reported an incident to police.

Mr. ROCHE is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on November 30, 2016.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
