On January 5, 2016 at 10:04 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Stone Road to investigate the complaint that a male failed to pay his taxi fare. Police searched the area and located a male matching the description a short distance away. Continued investigation discovered that this was the male responsible and that he was breaching court imposed conditions, he was arrested.
Blue Robert Johnston, 39 years of no fixed address, has been charged with transportation fraud, breach of recognizance, two counts of breach of probation and two counts of breach OIC undertaking. He will appear in court on February 16, 2016.
Festive R.I.D.E. final total numbers
During the 2015 Holiday RIDE season members of the Guelph Police conducted RIDE spot checks at different locations throughout the City. A total of 2,340 vehicles were stopped by officers with one driver being arrested for impaired driving and fifty roadside screening tests conducted. The results of the screening tests led to one arrest for drive over 80 milligrams, three drivers being issued 3 day drivers licence suspensions and three novice drivers being issued 24 hour suspensions. All of these drivers had their vehicles towed from the scene. Four other drivers stopped in the RIDE lanes were arrested for other Criminal Code offences and several Highway Traffic Act offence notices were issued for violations found during the stops.
Police would like to remind drivers that if you are heading out and consume alcohol or drugs make sure you plan a safe way to get home. As part of our commitment to road safety we will continue conducting RIDE spot checks.
