Man and Woman Charged with Theft

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a Wallaceburg man and woman following a shoplifting incident yesterday.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. the woman entered a store on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and placed a Canon scanner valued at $70 in her cart. The woman proceeded to the check-out and attempted to exchange the scanner for a computer monitor. When asked for a receipt and identification, the woman left the store with the scanner. She was last seen getting into a vehicle waiting for her outside.

Around 4:30 p.m. officers located the vehicle in Wallaceburg with the man and woman inside of it. They were found to be in possession of the scanner and other stolen items valued at approximately $1000.

The 39-year-old woman has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. The 18-year-old man has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. Both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
