The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man and woman following a break and enter in Chatham yesterday.
Around 12:00 p.m. police received information about a suspicious man and woman in the area of Woodland Avenue who just left a residence carrying a black electronics case. Officers flooded the area and confirmed that entry had been gained into a residence and a camera, video camera and cash were stolen. Damage to the residence was estimated at $200. Police located the man and woman on Rosedale Street. The man dropped the electronics case containing the stolen video camera and fled on foot. The woman remained on scene and was arrested. Upon being searched incident to arrest, she was found to be in possession of the stolen camera.
The man was located a short distance away in a backyard on Grand Avenue East. The man attempted to gain entry into this residence and caused $500 damage to a door. When the man failed to enter the home, he hid in an enclosed area under the house. The man was located and taken into custody with the assistance of the K-9 Unit.
The 21-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.
The 27-year-old Chatham man has been charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and mischief over $5000.
Both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
