Male arrested after damaging property at two locations

On January 29, 2014 at 11:34 p.m., the Guelph Police attended to an establishment on MacDonell Street to investigate a reported disturbance. It is alleged that a male was located partially clothed in a bathroom. The male had damaged ceiling tiles and removed speakers from the ceiling. The male fled this establishment when employees tried to deal with him. The male then attended to a variety store on MacDonell where he took three magazines and entered the employee only area. Employees asked him to leave but he refused. He then started to cause damage to ceiling tiles and wiring and tore the sink from the wall before he finally barricaded himself inside the washroom. Police were able to gain access and arrest the male. Due to the male admitting to consuming a large quantity of caffeine pills and caffeine drinks, paramedics attended and transported him to Guelph hospital to be medically cleared.

A 35-year-old male from Kitchener has been charged with two counts of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of breach probation. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on January 30, 2014.
