In July of 2007, shortly after 5:00 a.m., Police were dispatched to West Bayfield Public School regarding a large fire in the back field area. Upon arrival Barrie Fire Services were extinguishing a fire to the large play structure located in the northeast portion of the school yard.

It had been determined the play structure had been deliberately set on fire, resulting in $12, 0000 damage.

Further investigation led police to the identity of the suspect responsible for the arson. Although, the 17-year-old male had fled the City and his whereabouts were unknown.

On Thursday, August 6, 2015, Police arrested the suspect who had been wanted since 2007. The suspect is now 24 -years-old.

The 24-year-old Barrie male has been charged with arson under the Youth Justice Act, although will appear in bail court, and later tried in an adult court.
