The pool at the Wingham complex is closed during Saturday’s and Sunday’s during July and August. Wingham is the only Public pool in the area that is closed to the Public weekends during the summer. Town staff didn’t want to work summer weekends, so council agreed to allow them to close it during weekends during the hottest time of year.
Teeswater, Goderich, Mildmay, Listowel, Howick and Brockton pools are open several times on both Sat. and Sun. It seems every other Community respects their Citizens enough to allow them use their own pool on the weekends. Town staff will claim it will cost too much to open the pool on weekends in an attempt to scare council and the Public into silence with fear of even higher taxes.
FACT: Literally every other area has lower taxes AND let’s the Public use their own pool during summer weekends.
Do you think the Public would have fund-raised and donated huge amounts of money to the Wingham Complex if they were told upfront they wouldn’t be allowed to use the pool during summer weekends?
So, what do you do to cool down in Wingham? How about going to the dam and jumping in the Maitland like the Old Days, when the water level was higher…back when the Public Works department did their job and maintained the Howson Dam.
At the Howson Dam, just above a No Trespass sign is another sign stating Warning unsafe for swimming. High levels of bacteria in these waters may pose a risk to your health”
