At last night’s council meeting, Bernie Bailey made a motion to restart the fire negotiations with Morris-Turnberry. Apparently these negotiations have stalled, despite council’s numerous in camera” sessions in which the press and public are not allowed to attend. Many have questioned if these meetings violate the “sunshine law” which sets very strict guidelines for closed meetings. The excuse they use is “safety and security of municipal property”. M-T recently got blasted by the Ombudsman for doing something similar. The “safety and security” exception is supposed to be used to discuss specific details the public does not need to know
