On Monday, October 31, 2016 at 8:18am, London Police Service members responded to London Health Sciences Centre (Victoria Hospital) in response to a report that one of two inmates of the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre taken to hospital by ambulance earlier in the morning had died. Both individuals had been transported to hospital after being found in medical distress by detention centre staff. The deceased inmate is a 27 year-old male. The second inmate received treatment and remains in stable condition at hospital.
London Police Service Major Crime Section members have attended EMDC and London Health Sciences Centre to continue the investigation. There was no evidence of trauma to either individual and foul play is not suspected at this time.
London Police Service members will continue to assist the Coroner in regards to the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cause and manner of death.
