(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is receiving reports of bicycle thefts from across the detachment area. The South Bruce OPP is offering the following tips to help bicycle owners protect their property:
Always lock your bike when you’re not using it, even when it’s on your property.
Store you bike inside where possible. Lock the building and the bike.
Lock at least 1 wheel, preferably both, and the frame to a bike rack or other, solid, object.
If you use quick release seat and wheels, take them with you and lock the frame.
Get a good quality lock or locks. Securing your bike with more locks will make it less desirable to a thief.
Try to leave your bike is a busy, well-lit place.
Record the serial number in a safe place. This will help you to identify your bike, if it is recovered.
The harder it is to steal your bike, the more likely it will be there when you want to ride it.
The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
