(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Huron County OPP and the Insurance Bureau of Canada are urging motorists to “Lock it or Lose itâ€Â. OPP statistics and interviews with arrested parties clearly show thieves are targeting unlocked vehicles with keys in the ignition. The Insurance Bureau of Canada reports a vehicle is stolen every three minutes. That is close to 500 vehicles a day. It can take a thief just 30 seconds to steal your vehicle and that’s without the key. What can you do to prevent your vehicle from being stolen?
Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key
Never leave your running vehicle unattended
When possible, park your vehicle in a secure garage
When parking outside find a well-lit area
Remove your valuables from your vehicle
Call police if you observe suspicious activity
Everyone needs to take some simple proactive measures to help prevent this crime.
