Local students participate in Cops for Cancer event at Police Headquarters

Waterloo Region, ON – A group of local students will join WRPS members and their families and friends to donate their hair at Hailey’s Hair Challenge, a special event in support of Cops for Cancer to be held at Waterloo Regional Police Headquarters on Friday May 29 beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Hailey Heinrich, who came up with the idea, is the six year old daughter of WRPS Detective Sergeant Shelley Heinrich and Sergeant Frank Heinrich.

“Hailey has been inspired recently to donate her hair and she approached Frank and me to find out how she could go about it,” said Shelley Heinrich. “She knows that there are many children and adults who are going through cancer treatment. When we learned that it takes 8 to 15 pony tails to make a wig, Hailey decided to create a hair challenge to have a big box of hair to donate.”

Waterloo Regional Police Chief Bryan Larkin will welcome all of the participants to the police headquarters gymnasium, where they will have their locks trimmed by volunteer stylists from Voila Salon and Spa – Sportsworld Crossing.

Donors will receive a certificate from Chief Larkin recognizing this special event and their unique contribution to the community. A representative of the Canadian Cancer Society will also be in attendance to greet the participants.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service continues to be a proud supporter of Cops for Cancer. Our members have participated since 2003 and have raised well in excess of $100,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Media members are asked to check in at the front desk prior to proceeding to the gymnasium.
