Local Resident Scammed

On 12 July, a Wingham resident contacted police regarding a suspicious call from an internet company who offered to check her computer remotely for viruses and other malicious software. This service was offered for free. Once the company checked the computer, they advised the complainant that there was software on her computer that needed to be cleaned” and they asked her for a credit card number to do that. The information was provided and the credit card billed. The complainant became suspicious and contacted the credit card company however since she authorized the purchase
