Lawrence REINSMA: Drive While Suspended, Drugs, No Insurance, etc. etc.

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A traffic stop just north of Bayfield this past weekend has resulted in several charges against a Central Huron man. The incident unfolded just after 2:00 a.m. on November 29, 2014. A Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Subaru Outback travelling northbound on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway and a traffic stop was initiated to check on the sobriety of the driver.

Officers attempted to speak with the driver however the driver failed to identify himself. Officers then instructed the driver to unlock the vehicle doors and exit the vehicle. The driver failed to comply with the demands of the officers. Officers ultimately gained entry into the vehicle and were able to arrest the driver for failing to identify himself.

Upon searching the driver, officers located and seized a quantity of marihuana. Additionally, the arresting officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A demand was given to the driver to provide a sample of his breath into the roadside screening device. The driver refused to provide a sample of his breath to the investigating officer and was further arrested for failing to provide a sample of his breath.

Subsequent checks on the driver and the Subaru Outback revealed the attached licence plates were not authorized for the Subaru, the vehicle was not insured and the driver held a suspended driver’s licence.

As a result, 57 year old Lawrence REINSMA, from Central Huron has been charged with Fail to Provide Breath Sample – Approved Screening Device, Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Marihuana, Driver Fail to Provide Identification, Drive Under Suspension, Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance and Use Plates Not Authorized for Vehicle.

He has been release from custody with a court date scheduled for January 19, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. His driver’s licence was suspended for an automatic 90 days and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
