(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have laid animal cruelty charges against a 33 year old female formerly of South Huron. On November 3, 2013 Huron OPP officers attended a vacant residence located on Algonquin Drive in Huron Park to investigate a complaint of abandoned animals in the residence.
A witness reported the former tenant moved out on October 31, 2013 leaving the pets behind. Officers accessed the residence to check on the condition of the pets and located two skittish dogs and four deceased cats. There were no signs of water or food left behind for the animals. The dogs were transported to a veterinary clinic for an assessment. It is believed they will make a recovery.
As a result, Krista HODGINS, 33, now residing in London has been charged with six counts of animal cruelty contrary to section 446 (1)(b) Criminal Code. She has a court appearance scheduled for January 23, 2013 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter.
