November 1st, 2017 police were contacted by several victims stating they had been defrauded their first and last month’s rent when setting up a sub-lease agreement from a Kijiji ad.
Several victims reported they had answered a Kijiji rental advertisement in August and September 2017, to sublet a house. The victims met with the suspect to provide first and last month’s rent. However, when it was time to move into the residence, the victims learned the house was never available to be subletted and their down payment was gone.
Hamilton Police are conducting a thorough investigation, which is expected to take a couple months due to obtaining all required financial documents. The suspects have been identified, located and there is no concern for further incidences.
