It’s that time of year again! Local children will be grabbing their fishing gear for the annual Innisfil Summerfest Kids Fishing Derby, Saturday, June 11.
Open to children ages 4 to 12, the event will take place from 7:00 am to 11:00 am at Innisfil Beach Park. Awards will be presented at 12 noon. The cost to participate is $5 and includes great prizes and giveaways. Registration this year will be limited to the first 150 children. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, including a bucket to carry their fish in. Officers from the South Simcoe Police will be in attendance throughout the morning. The Innisfil Summerfest Kids Fishing Derby is a live release event.
The event is sponsored by Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects. It is also supported by ICE Corp, the Police Association of Ontario, Canadian Tire, the South Simcoe Police Association, Horodynski Farms and Simcoe Trophies.
Bob Izumi, well-known fishing personality and chair of Fishing Forever, is an avid supporter of recreational fishing: “Fishing is one of the best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children and promote conservation.”
