(GUELPH/ERAMOSA TWP, ON) – On Friday November 23, 2012 at approximately 11:24pm County of Wellington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on County Road 124 near Kossuth Road in Guelph/Eramosa Twp. At this time and location officers investigated the driver of a 2004 Suzuki that came upon the checkpoint. Police spoke to the male driver and detected the strong odour of freshly burnt marihuana. The driver turned over a small amount of marihuana to police. A field sobriety test was conducted which resulted in the male driver being taken into custody.
Kevin McKinnon aged 56 of Guelph/Eramosa Twp has been charged with Possession of Marihuana Under 30 grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Impaired Operation of Motor Vehicle – by Drug contrary to the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on January 11, 2013 to answer to the charges.
