The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 138 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.
K9 Arry Assists with Drug Seizure CK16025685
Last night, shortly after 8:00 p.m. an officer on general patrol queried license plates on a black Ford Taurus travelling southbound on First Street in Chatham. The officer learned the license plates were not registered to the vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated on Fourth Street. As the vehicle stopped, the passenger fled on foot behind several houses. He was quickly taken into custody following a short foot chase. K9 Arry tracked the route through the backyards that the man ran through and two clear plastic bags that he threw while running containing cocaine and methamphetamine were located. K9 Arry also searched the vehicle resulting in more cocaine and methamphetamine being seized. Both the driver and passenger were arrested and transported to police headquarters. Upon being searched incident to arrest, the driver was also found to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine. Total value of the drugs seized was $7360.
Matthew Humphrey, 30 years, of Baldoon Road in Chatham has been charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking and breach of probation.
Matthew Buller, 31 years, of Shepherd Street in Sarnia has been charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.
Both men were released pending a future court date of September 8, 2016.
Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK16025654
Yesterday afternoon, the man and his ex-girlfriend began arguing over property in the woman’s apartment. The man grabbed the woman’s PlayStation4 as he was leaving. When the woman tried to get the item back, she was assaulted and he threatened to damage the gaming system. The man fled the area prior to police arrival, however he was located a short time later and arrested.
Through investigation, the woman disclosed that this was not the first time that she had been the victim of domestic violence.
The 21-year-old Chatham man has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, uttering threats to property and three counts of assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK16025671
On August 10, 2016 a warrant was issued for the man as he failed to comply with his Probation Order.
Last night, the man attended police headquarters and turned himself in. Alain Gaudreault, 53 years, of Talbot Trail in Harwich Township was arrested and released pending a future court date of August 31, 2016.
Break and Enter in Chatham CK16025610
Sometime over the past four days, unknown suspect(s) attended the new Giant Tiger store under construction on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and stole 360 feet of copper wiring valued at approximately $1400.
