Justin Thompson – Drunk Driving – Found by K-9 Unit in Basement Closet

Justin William Thompson, 20 years old of Bluevale was in custody following a traffic stop by the Wingham Police Service North of Wingham early this morning. (23 January 2010)

At 3:12 AM a Wingham Police Officer was on patrol of Wingham in the Township of North Huron when he observed a motor vehicle proceed through the stop sign of George St and Josephine St without coming to a full stop. Police stopped the vehicle North of Wingham on London Rd in the Township of Morris Turnberry. The driver of the vehicle exited the vehicle and falsely identified himself. When speaking to him, the officer detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage. When he was read the breath demand, he responded “No I will not do that.” The man was placed under arrest for refusal. The driver then assaulted the officer. A struggle ensued and the accused broke free and fled through a field.

The OPP were called as backup and a K-9 unit was requested. The K-9 Unit conducted a track to a Mary St residence where the suspect was located hiding in the basement bedroom closet

The officer was treated at Wingham and District Hospital for minor injuries and released.

Justin will appear in Bail court in Goderich on Monday.
