On 31 August 2013 the Owen Sound Police Service joined members from; O.P.P Grey County, O.P.P. Bruce Peninsula, O.P.P. South Bruce, Hanover Police Service, Saugeen Shores Police Service and West Grey Police Service for a joint forces traffic initiative in the city of Owen Sound.
Police set up several ride check points with a concentration in the area of the entertainment tent at the Salmon Spectacular and other strategic areas within the city. A total of 950 vehicles were checked which resulted in one roadside breath test which the driver passed. A number of verbal cautions were given relating to vehicle equipment and seat belts. In addition five provincial liquor charges not related to vehicles were laid.
Those attending this year’s Salmon Spectacular were very responsible with the use of designated drivers, public transportation and or making alternate arrangements. Police were thanked numerous times by drivers for conducting the ride checks and keeping the impaired drivers off the road.
