Impaired/Child Abandonment/Domestic Violence Update

In relation to the previously reported March 10, 2015 investigation a review of the associated incidents (impaired driving, child abandonment, and domestic violence) was undertaken. That review determined the following:

• The police response to the investigation of impaired driving, including attending to the woman’s medical needs, was thorough and appropriate to the circumstances;

• The investigation and charges laid in relation to the child abandonment issue were appropriate and the charges should proceed to court;

• Finally, the domestic violence investigation was determined to have not been completed expeditiously and was not consistent with LPS policy and procedures. The circumstances were immediately reviewed, the investigation was continued, and charges were laid on March 13th.

An internal review of the matter with respect to the domestic violence investigation is continuing at this time.
