On August 30th, 2014 a Barrie Police officer stopped a motorist for an expired licence plate. The 26 year old suspended driver provided his brother’s name, date of birth, and address. The driver was issued two traffic tickets in his brother’s name.
On September 1st, 2014 another Barrie Police officer stopped the same driver and again he identified himself as his brother. He was issued three tickets in his brother’s name.
On September 7th, 2014 the original investigator was contracted by a Peel Regional officer. The Peel Regional officer advised that he also stopped this driver, who was using his brother’s name, however, his true identity was discovered along with the tickets in his brother’s name.
On September 8th, 2014 the accused was arrested. He was charged with Identity Fraud (Criminal Code, two counts), Obstructing Peace Officer (Criminal Code, two counts), Driving while under Suspension (Highway Traffic Act, two counts), Drive motor vehicle with no currently validated permit (Highway Traffic Act, two counts), Unnecessary Noise (Highway Traffic Act, one count). The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Police notified the Provincial Court of the brother’s tickets so they could be withdrawn.
