Hwy 8 Closed until Saturday Afternoon – Due To Mitchell Fire

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) Perth County OPP officers in Mitchell have been advised by the Ontario Fire Marshall that Highway 8 through the heart of Mitchell will remain closed until sometime Saturday afternoon April 17, 2010.

Officials from the Ontario Fire Marshalls office are currently sifting through the debris of “Dollar Haven” store in downtown Mitchell in an attempt to determine the cause of the large blaze which occurred there on Thursday night April 15th.

Upon completion of their investigation engineers will be called in to evaluate the building and determine how to safely dismantle the remaining structure.

Currently the traffic on Highway 8 is being re-routed along side streets of Mitchell. The OPP will re-open the highway when it is deemed safe to do so by all agencies involved.
