Huron OPP Scores High Marks

(HURON COUNTY, ON) The Huron County Ontario Provincial Police Detachment scored high ratings in the 2011 Community Satisfaction Survey. 98% of respondents reported they felt either “very safe” or “safe” in their community.

The Community Satisfaction Survey (CSS) is a tool used for gathering public opinion on policing issues, perceptions of crime, and ratings of OPP service delivery. The survey was completed by a commercial research company.

In total, 383 residents of Huron County completed the random telephone survey. The results of the survey adequately represent the opinions of residents from the entire detachment area as the survey sampling was conducted in a way to gather a representative footprint of all the communities within Huron County.

Key highlights include:

95% of respondents were either “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with the quality of police service provided by the OPP.
95% of respondents felt OPP officers in the community are approachable and friendly.
93% of respondents were either “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with the OPP’s ability to work with communities to solve local problems.
92% of respondents were either “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with the OPP’s visibility on the highways
When given the choice between yes and no, 50% of respondents indicated drug & substance abuse were problems in their community, 43% for alcohol problems, 32% for property crimes, 30% for domestic abuse, 29% for violence in schools, 29% for nuisance activities, 13% for youth gathering on the streets, and half of those surveyed felt a lack of youth programs and activities were problems in their community.

Huron OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Chris Martin stated, “Overall, I am very pleased with the results of the survey. Our officers are continually challenged to prioritize public safety concerns within our communities in an effort to make Huron County a safe place to live, work and visit. I look forward to addressing any public safety challenges that may lie ahead while continuing to provide professional service delivery consistent with the expectations of the communities we serve.”
