Huron OPP Launches Bicycle Patrol Unit

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – The Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment has recently launched a bicycle patrol unit. Huron County residents will see two full time dedicated bicycle patrol officers patrolling the communities of Huron County from May until October 1st. The bicycle patrol unit is scheduled to appear at several special events held throughout Huron County this year. Officers will be working a variety of shifts in an effort maximize the effectiveness of the unit.

This versatile, highly visible unit will have the ability to respond to and prevent a variety of offences such as drug and alcohol offences, violations under the Highway Traffic Act, mischiefs, bylaw and curfew violations. Officers will be enforcing violations with a zero tolerance approach. Although zero tolerance is to be expected if you are breaking the law; officers will also be expected to enhance public relations by being highly visible and approachable. One area of focus will be increased school zone patrols.

The Huron OPP bicycle patrol unit believes increased street level visibility will enhance and strengthen our relationships within our towns and villages. “I’m excited to launch the Huron OPP bicycle patrol unit within our county. I fully believe the unit will prove to be of benefit and a valuable addition to policing for Huron County.” -Huron OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Chris Martin.
