On July 9, 2014 at approximately 3pm, a 30 year old Brampton man was arrested on the strength of a Waterloo Regional Police Service warrant for human trafficking related offences. The accused is suspected of exploiting a 23 year old Oakville female victim from March to June 2014 throughout the province of Ontario including Cambridge and Kitchener. The accused has been held pending a bail hearing. Human Trafficking refers to the exploitation of a person at the hands of another; it involves the recruitment, transportation, and/or exercising control, direction or influence over the movements of a person typically through sexual exploitation. Across Canada, women and young girls are targeted based on their vulnerability and exploited in the sex trade. Domestic human trafficking exposes its victims to abuse from the trafficker physically, psychologically, emotionally and financially. Often victims face severe consequences if they attempt to escape.
