Starting April 1, 2017 the landfill site will be open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm. The clear garbage bag program is now in effect as this change in collection services is a part of a sustainable waste management system. In 2015 Howick Landfill site had an estimated life of 15 years and in 2016 that was reduced to 10 years.
Most Howick residents already do their best to divert and the clear garbage bag program is intended to increase participation from households that do not presently recycle material.
