Huron County – Howick Central School hosted a smoke-free movie day Friday, November 29 in collaboration with the Huron County Health Unit. A smoke-free movie is a movie that does not contain any scenes of smoking or tobacco use.
During the day, students participated in a smoke-free photo booth, button making and a screening of The Croods. Members of the school’s intramural committee also wrote and filmed a smoke-free movie trailer that was debuted before the movie. The trailer will be featured on the website of the Avon-Maitland District School Board for members of the public to view.
Howick Central School did an excellent job of raising awareness about, and showing their support for, smoke-free movies,†says Public Health Promoter Abby Feagan, “Movies influence many kids to start smoking, which is why it is important to show smoke-free movies and educate children about smoking in moviesâ€Â.
